After a slightly cool spring, we are deep in the heat of summer. The animals have loved the rain and all the lush grasses that it brought.
But the heat and those dire, smoky days??? Not so much. The sheep are prone to respiratory ailments and they did suffer in the terrible smoke. We pray for the fires to be contained – for us and for all the people and environments affected.
The pigs are the biggest concern in the heat. We had ample shade, wallows, and straw bedding for them and they did great, but it is a juggle.
Our sows really like the Pig Palace! This Ossabaw sow is waiting in her palatial digs to have her babies…
In other quarters, the turkeys are in their juvenile stage and exploring the trees, ledges of all kinds, equipment, and more in their hunt for foraged edibles. Go forth, young turks, and hunt for ticks.
And finally a few new calves were born in the past couple of weeks. Surprise!!!! #12 seems right at home with his momma.
Happy summer and safe travels to wherever you may be going with family and friends.
