The day finally arrived. We prepared to let the flock loose on the spring grass for the first time this year.
And out they went!
The action was very much like a crowded escalator when one person stops at the bottom as the first sheep (literally) out of the gate were stopping in their tracks as soon as they hit grass (CLICK for VIDEO).
They spread out eventually…
And the lambs…well they have never been on grass – so there was a lot of confusion. On one hand, mom was out luxuriating in the field, and on the other – there is so much field! So there was a little back and forth with lots of noise, jumps, frolicking (CLICK for VIDEO).
(sorry I am working on embedding videos, but you’ll have to click the links on this post).
Once they found each other, the only real sound was of contented grazing.
In other exciting news, the first turkeys were hatched out this weekend. And so begins the road to Thanksgiving.
As always, if you are looking for our pastured pork, chicken, lamb, turkey, eggs and limited beef, you can buy it at the Tavern Shop on the campus of Brick Farm Tavern Tuesday-Sunday 11am-6pm. There is a wide variety of chops, ground meat, sausages, bacon, eggs, and cuts as well as raw dog food from the farm. And don’t miss the house-made goodies: stews, sauces, breads, pickles, soups and broths.
