These are some sticky days, but with a little planning we are all in good shape.
The cows are forever at the watering hole (and breaking the water delivery systems with annoying frequency, but that’s another story).
Most of the animals are along a tree line with shade, or in a wood lot. Here are the chickens making the most of the inside and outside of the chicken wagon. The wagons have it all: feed, water, shade and protection. If you look closely – you can even see Torg in this photo.
The pigs are in woodlots and under the canopy of the open barn in the pig palace. Shady and breezy is what they need (plus wallowing abilities and a nice concrete floor to cool off on).
Cisco and Blue are outside on a limited basis during these hot days. They have no energy governor and will run themselves into the ground if given the opportunity. But they really don’t like the inside life – they’ve had enough of US Open tennis!
In other news, we are almost ready to harvest our hearty kiwis. These little jewels are the NJ version of the exotic fruit we all know and love. And they grow right here as a perennial. No need to peel – just pop them in. Look for a possible harvest offering at the Market or maybe a collaboration…??!!
Hope you all had a happy Labor Day.
