Happy Halloween! We were huddled indoors much of yesterday (much needed blustery, rainy day) drinking pumpkin spice coffee and making soup. But our team is back at it with the sun reportedly coming out and the wind drying everything up.

The turkeys are coming along…generally terrorizing our neighbors, their guardian dog, and our staff. If you haven't ordered yours yet, now is the time. Head over to the Maria's Hopewell site and get started. While you're at it – you can order gravy, sides, pies, and/or a smoked Double Brook ham (for those so inclined).

All over the farm, we are starting a fall and winter routine. The hay we baled in the spring and summer is beginning to come into play, and the animals are being moved and grazed ever closer to their wintering locations.

We welcome these cooler days. The fields will have a chance to rest and regenerate and the animals love these temps. Thick winter double coats are coming in on the sheep – and they look about 10-15 lbs. heavier than they really are. This, plus the water-resistant lanolin that naturally insulates their skin and coat, is the best form of protection in winter. They are ready.

Above – our rams are in with the ewes. Even as we approach winter, we farmers are thinking of spring!
