Phil Haynes of Ralston Farm, the farming operation on our vegetable fields, had a surprise waiting for his crew this morning when they came on check on the pigs… PIGLETS!
Ralston’s two Gloucestershire Old Spots gilts were cohabitating with our Ossabaw boar for about 2 months on the Double Brook property off Carter Rd. They parted ways as sows and boars often do and the guys at Ralston brought the sows back to farrow in their fields. And voila! Rosemary is the first sow to have piglets and Phil reports that she is doing very well as a first-time mother.
It was an all-around beautiful day in the neighborhood.
