Several days ago, we brought the whole turkey population out into the tall grass for the first time. They will be on this pasture until Thanksgiving. The move outside never disappoints.

The chirping, feather ruffling, mud baths, and explorations go on all day.

When the turkeys first go out, they immediately exhibit their natural behaviors: eating bugs, scratching, and settling in the dust for a bath. It is pretty awesome to see. Usually Jon takes a seat to listen for a while as they make their new calls and sounds outside.

Some enterprising males even start to display their fans for the hens. Helloooooo ladies!

At night, they gradually walk back into the barn with Nellie and bed down. But that first day is always the best.
