Double Brook FarmWell, it looks like this weather will break over the weekend. And we couldn’t be happier. The Polar Vortex has definitely worn out its welcome…just ask Atlanta.

Over at the Martin tract, the animals have been bedded down and have plenty of hay in which to make a nest. Some inside…

Double Brook FarmSome outside…

Double Brook FarmThe sun has been helping to warm things up throughout the day, allowing for some socializing. This sow below was literally flopping her 600lb frame over on the ground so that Brett could scratch her belly!

Double Brook FarmThe chickens and dogs were all brought into and enclosure with hay shelters and the laying wagons. Kasey is definitely ready to get back out onto the open range. Patrolling an enclosed space is not his bag!

Double Brook FarmBut he and Bea were happy enough for a scratch down. Is it just me, or does Bea look like she’s been hitting the eggs again??

Double Brook FarmThe chickens would probably do just fine in the cold as long as they stayed inside the chicken wagon when the wind was blowing. But you can never count on those chickens doing the right thing. So, shelter in the barn it is until, oh, Saturday/Sunday.

Double Brook FarmBrett, Orlando and Taylor are counting the days. It is a lot of work and stress making sure the animals are comfortable in this ridiculously cold weather, and they have been doing an amazing job.
