Fall is a great time to catch up on some unfinished business: fence mending, seeding, hay. The rush to get water and shade to the animals loses its intensity as the weather cools down. Even though some animals already know how to take care of themselves.
Others wait in the sun so they don't miss any action by the service road.
With that touch of rain, the grass has greened up a bit and the animals are moving about a little more freely.
The pigs are not so desperate for a wallow and take to rooting in the woodlots.
And finally, our young steers are out on pasture. We got them from Hun-Val farm (the local dairy provider for our Brick Farm Market and Brick Farm Tavern) and bottle-fed them through the hottest months of the summer. It feels good to have a couple head of cattle at Double Brook Farm again!
