Double Brook FarmOh how the times have changed. That image looks almost sultry. Jon and I took the dogs over to investigate and to check on the beaver dam that is happening in the pond in the middle of the property.

Double Brook FarmWe took our time and appreciated the dry walk in the woods.

Double Brook FarmStopped to see the lambs…

Double Brook FarmAnd then made our way back to the pond to see the dam. For real!

Double Brook FarmIt may not look like much, but those rodents destructive. Just look at this tree – like a half-eaten snack.

Double Brook FarmThey get their choppers right in there to fell trees, stop up the running water and raise the water level.

Double Brook FarmSince they have appeared on our ‘shores’, the water level has risen about 4 inches, the algae is all gone and the access to the water is devoid of the high reeds that crowded in last summer. It looks beautiful! And you can hear the occasional slapping of the beaver tail on the water. This is what lies beneath the sticks, branches and mud…

Double Brook FarmNow that the pond is so clear and we can access its shores so easily AND it’s freezing…are you thinking what I’m thinking?

Edible Jersey – Q&A With Jon & Robin McConaughy

Can a magazine article change your life? In the case of Jon and Robin McConaughy, one at least jump-started a directional change for them and their young family that led to their establishing Double Brook Farm in Hopewell in 2004. The article was Power Steer by Michael Pollan, best known ...

Sheep Are Finally On The Spring Grass

The day finally arrived! We prepared to let the flock loose on the spring grass for the first time this year. And out they went… The action was very much like a crowded escalator when one person stops at the bottom as the first sheep (literally) out of the gate ...
