So, it was the coldest day of the year on Saturday. When we woke up, it was measuring -3º of pure frigidity. This, ladies and gentleman, is when a farmer really scrambles. The water freezes tight, shelters must be erected, animals moved into treed areas, and on and on.
This is NOT a time when you want your animals to go into labor! Yet…on the coldest day of the winter, our first goat was born at Double Brook Farm. And since ‘goat’ really stands for ‘greatest of all time’, we’ll be naming him Wayne Gretzky.
This little guy (and mother) went directly under the heat lamp and nestled into some deep hay. And a few days later, he’s doing just fine. Which meant… time to take a break and get back out onto the pond to pad our own stats!
