So there was tremendous barking at the front door. The kind of bark that sounds furious and frustrated all at the same time. As I rushed to the front door, I figured out why.
The turkeys were teasing Sarge. Just playing with him. Dancing around on the walkway, and then the front porch…
Just THIS close, tantalizingly close, to being indoors. Sarge could almost taste the feathers ruffling in his jaws.
“If only someone would let me outside”
But then I saw what they were actually doing. The Toms were providing a distraction for predators because our one remaining turkey hen has had a bunch of poults!
She disappeared and we feared for the worst, but she was just hiding out and sitting on a nest behind the barn. I love these little guys. All legs feathers.
Last year we hatched 2, this year 4. Just think where we’ll be in 20 years!
